In Perfect Peace
"You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You." Isaiah 26:3 "Perfect Peace!" That is what we all want. That, too, is what Christ offers us in his gospel. Among his farewell words we find this bequest: "Peace I leave with you my peace I give unto you." After his return from the grave, he said to his disciples, three times repeating the same benediction, "Peace be unto you." Peace is thus part of the blessed evangel, and an essential element of the true and full Christian life. Christ desires us to have peace. If we do not have it we have missed part of the blessing of being a Christian, part of our inheritance as children of God. It is not a peculiar privilege which is only for a favored few; it is for everyone who believes in Christ and will accept it. In this blessed text you will find the path of the Peace of Christ.

The Peace Escalation
During hundreds of millions of years man has evolved from worm to homo sapiens with ever accelerating achievements in science and technology. The accompanying change of human behavior was however not well synchronized with that of the hominid's appearance. The furless ape had become a fearsome killing machine with destructive powers never seen before. Since the beginning of time evolution has always pushed living beings to their outmost limits, with spontaneous mutations that suddenly changes everything. This is how man might become a new species, with new and different abilities. And a new and different attitude towards fellow beings. Not to blindly kill each other and not to fight wars would make these evolved primates a very special species indeed.

Voices of Scotswomen in Peace and War
During the Second World War thousands of women served with the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS), the Women's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF), Women's Royal Naval Service (WRNS) or the Timber Corps. In this book 19 Scotswomen who served in the war tell their stories. The women, born between 1918 and 1926, and interviewed between 1998 and 2005, came from towns and villages throughout Scotland. The 1939–45 War plucked many women from their normal lives and thrust them into very different and dangerous experiences. Leaving her job in a baker's shop in Glasgow, one woman found herself early in 1945 on a troopship heading for Naples; another, as an officer in the WRNS, crossed the Atlantic three times. One woman escaped death when 26 of her ATS colleagues were killed at Yarmouth by a German bomber. Despite the danger, many women formed close and lasting friendships, and for some the war years were the happiest of their lives. These fascinating stories of wartime women, told in their own words, vividly convey the important and varied roles that women played during the war.

How can the peace treaty be assessed as a sustainable peace?
The peace treaty can be assessed as a sustainable peace by examining several key factors. Firstly, the involvement and commitment of all parties to the treaty is crucial for its sustainability. If all parties are genuinely invested in upholding the terms of the treaty, it is more likely to endure. Additionally, the inclusion of mechanisms for conflict resolution and reconciliation can contribute to the sustainability of the peace treaty. This can involve establishing a framework for addressing grievances and promoting dialogue between conflicting parties. Lastly, the support and involvement of the international community can also play a significant role in ensuring the sustainability of the peace treaty, by providing resources and assistance for its implementation and monitoring.

What are the Peace of Augsburg and the Peace of Westphalia?
The Peace of Augsburg, signed in 1555, was a treaty between the Holy Roman Empire and the Schmalkaldic League, a group of Protestant princes. It formally recognized the coexistence of Catholicism and Lutheranism within the empire, allowing each prince to choose the religion of his territory. This marked an important step towards religious tolerance and the end of religious wars in the Holy Roman Empire. The Peace of Westphalia, signed in 1648, ended the Thirty Years' War in the Holy Roman Empire and the Eighty Years' War between Spain and the Dutch Republic. It established a new political order in Europe by recognizing the independence of the Dutch Republic and Switzerland, and by granting more autonomy to the German princes. The treaty also extended the principle of religious tolerance by allowing Calvinism to be practiced alongside Catholicism and Lutheranism. The Peace of Westphalia is considered a milestone in the development of the modern state system and international law.
