Corporate Responsibility

Corporate Responsibility in Europe
The sector-specific approach to Corporate Responsibility (CR) has attracted little attention so far, although the industrial sector is a key variable in any company's economic environment. Therefore, this book introduces sector-specific CR as a way to increase the success and impact of business engagement. It focuses on sector-specific initiatives with government involvement as appropriate governance mechanisms to address sustainability challenges through public-private collaboration. What is the state of sector-specific CR across Europe? How do sector-specific initiatives work and what are criteria for their good performance? What roles do governments play in such initiatives? To answer these questions, the book draws on rich empirical evidence from five industries across eight European countries as well as on the expertise of numerous CR and industry experts. In doing so, its target audience is both researchers and practitioners. Academics will find a starting point for further research in this emerging field, whereas practitioners are offered empirical and effective models for promoting sector-specific CR.

Technology and Globalisation
This book examines the role of experts and expertise in the dynamics of globalisation since the mid-nineteenth century. It shows how engineers, scientists and other experts have acted as globalising agents, providing many of the materials and institutional means for world economic and technical integration. Focusing on the study of international connections, Technology and Globalisation illustrates how expert practices have shaped the political economies of interacting countries, entire regions and the world economy. This title brings together a range of approaches and topics across different regions, transcending nationally-bounded historical narratives. Each chapter deals with a particular topic that places expert networks at the centre of the history of globalisation. The contributors concentrate on central themes including intellectual property rights, technology transfer, tropical science, energy production, large technological projects, technical standards and colonial infrastructures. Many also consider methodological, theoretical and conceptual issues.

Is contraception a joint responsibility, a woman's responsibility, or a man's responsibility?
Contraception is a joint responsibility that should be shared by both partners. Both men and women should take an active role in preventing unwanted pregnancies and protecting themselves from sexually transmitted infections. Open communication and mutual decision-making about contraception can help ensure that both partners are taking responsibility for their sexual health. Ultimately, the choice of contraception method should be made based on the needs and preferences of both individuals.

What distinguishes a legal responsibility from an ethical-moral responsibility?
A legal responsibility is a duty or obligation that is mandated by laws, regulations, or contracts, and failure to fulfill it can result in legal consequences such as fines or lawsuits. On the other hand, an ethical-moral responsibility is based on personal values, principles, and beliefs about what is right or wrong, and is not necessarily enforceable by law. While legal responsibilities are defined and enforced by external authorities, ethical-moral responsibilities are self-imposed and guided by individual conscience. In some cases, there may be overlap between legal and ethical-moral responsibilities, but they are distinct in their origins and enforcement mechanisms.

Handbook of Electronics Formulas and Calculations - Volume 2
Some years ago I had written a book directed to anyone who designs electronic and electric circuits. Engineers, technicians, teachers, students and hobbyists took a real benefit from that book. The original book is now out of print, being available only used issues. Since the book is very useful, the author decided to review the old edition, add new content and so create a new book for anyone who need a fast access to formulas, tables and calculations when designing his projects or solving a problem. The author, who has himself designed multitudes of projects and circuits during his life, publishing many books and hundreds of articles in electronics magazines and teaching electronics, has collected an assortment of all basic information necessary for calculations needed when designing new projects or solving a problem. More part of these formulas and calculations is now in the author´s site. The site also has versions in Portuguese and in Spanish. In the site the reader will also find practical examples in projects or articles where many of the formulas shown in this book are used. When starting a project or solving a problem the main difficulty the designer or student founds is how to locate the desired information. This information is normally spread over a large number of resources, such as books, handbooks, Internet, and magazine articles. Although many of us who are experienced in electronics have in mind the principal formulas, we sometimes have trouble with the forgotten constant, multiplication factor or exponent. Finding these values is sometimes difficult depending of the circumstances, such as where you are at the time, or the amount of resources at your disposal.
